DALK (Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty)

DALK (Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty)

DALK (Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty) is a specialized partial-thickness transplant often described as the “gold standard” for treating advanced Keratoconus.

What is DALK?

DALK is an advanced surgical technique where the diseased outer and middle layers of the cornea (the stroma) are removed, while the patient’s own healthy innermost layer (the endothelium) is left entirely intact.

  • The Procedure: The surgeon uses a "Big Bubble" technique to delicately separate the diseased stroma from the healthy inner membrane. A donor graft, with its own inner layer removed, is then sutured into place.
  • Primary Use: At Arham, this is specifically used for extreme cases of advanced Keratoconus where the cornea has thinned or bulged significantly but the inner layer is still functional. It is also used for deep corneal scars that do not reach the back of the eye.

Why Choose Arham for DALK?

Specialized Expertise: Dr. Dharmesh Shah is the first cornea specialist in the Saurashtra and Kutch region, with over 20 years of experience and 7,000+ corneal procedures.

Keratoconus Focus: Arham is a dedicated center for Keratoconus management, offering everything from C3R (to stop progression) to DALK (for advanced cases).
